A Pattern ruler
Everything starts with a pencil sketch. I’ll send my ideas over to Ava at the factory in Somerset, and that’s where the real magic begins.
To translate a drawing into a 3D bag, Ava uses this special ruler. It’s her most-used tool for pattern development—the bridge between my initial "what if" and the final leather sample. Every curve and line of a new shape are first plotted out with precision on paper using this ruler.
She draws the bag pattern panels out with pencil and paper, then cuts them out of a soft felt, this is called a salpe. Like a mock up to check it is ok before cutting into leather. Measurements need to be exact so edges line up neatly.
